I am Chinese: Celebrating our Story on National Day
As I sit down to write this essay, I can't help but feel a sense of pride and belonging. Today, I'm not just writing about the National Day of China; I'm telling my story as a Chinese person. My story is woven into the fabric of this great nation's history, culture, and people.
The word "National Day" in English may seem formal or even distant to some. But for me, it's more than just a day marked on the calendar. It's a celebration of our country's founding and its journey towards becoming what it is today – strong, resilient, and vibrant.
Growing up in China has been an incredible experience. Every year on October 1st, my family would gather together to watch the grand parade on TV. We'd see floats adorned with flowers and dragons dancing through the streets; we'd hear marching bands playing lively tunes; we'd witness soldiers presenting their arms in unison. These were symbols of unity and strength that left an indelible mark on my young mind.
But beyond these visual spectacles lay deeper meanings that have shaped me into who I am today. The National Day represents freedom from oppression and tyranny – it signifies our ancestors' unwavering determination to forge their own path towards prosperity.
As someone who speaks English fluently but identifies as Chinese first and foremost, I often find myself bridging two worlds – one rooted in tradition yet embracing innovation; one where ancient wisdom meets modern aspirations.
My English language skills have allowed me to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds worldwide. They've given me opportunities to share stories about China – its rich history dating back over 4 millennia; its breathtaking landscapes ranging from towering mountains to vast deserts; its mouth-watering cuisine that tantalizes taste buds around the globe.
And so when asked about national identity during conversations with friends or colleagues abroad, my response usually goes like this:
"I am Chinese because being Chinese means embracing resilience born out of hardship," says Liang Hongchen (me). "It means celebrating diversity within unity while cherishing traditions passed down through generations."
In essence, being part of this magnificent tapestry called China is something unique yet universal at once - something shared by millions across borders but cherished most deeply by those whose roots run deep within these lands known as Zhongguo (China) since time immemorial.
To celebrate our story as told above isn't merely waving flags high or watching parades pass by each year anymore - though they remain significant events marking important milestones for us all.
Celebrating includes sharing tales like mine among friends near & far,
Culinary adventures exploring flavors both familiar & new,
Traveling across landscapes steeped in legend & lore,
And forging connections transcending boundaries between cultures evermore!
So here comes another round full circle
From past till present then onward bound
With every step forward along life’s winding road
Our voices echo loud & clear: This is home!
